France had a better and faster midfield who largely depended on Zidane, and an awesome forward, Henry. Italy had a better defense led by Cannavaro, and a better goalie too.
Cannavaro and Buffon -- best players in the match. They didn't allow the French, especially the dangerous Zidane, Henry and Ribery to score.
Italy didn't play the best, but neither did France. After all, their only goal was a penalty.

I agree with you that I was impressed with Germany's performance - especially Klose, Ballack, Podolski, and Lahm. I'd heard people say that they weren't that talented and weren't expected to do well in the world cup; however, I don't know if they were spurred on by the enthusiasm of the fans or what but they consistently came out and played fantastic games with the exception of the game against Italy when it just seemed that they sort of ran out of steam at the end.

Zidane do not let the head butt be the only image of him he carried france to that final.

they played well because they held off the french from scoring. but i dont think it was their best game but then again they were playing a really hard team and the french were really fast.
cant name the two best players but i do think the whole italian team
