Word of advice. Don't entrust your PC's safety to free antivirus. Next you'll be on here asking how to get rid of a virus and crying about losing all your data. Spend the $30 - $40 bucks.

Buy one. It is better because you are paying for them to be constantly aware of what is coming and to make the fixes for it. That is like asking for the best medical care in the country from a free clinic. It isn't going to happen. The phrase, "You get what you pay for" is very applicable to virus protection.

AVG is an awesome free Anti Virus program. I've been using it for about a year now, and it auto-updates every day.

Do you like have Comcast? If u do you can download one for free from them...if not check with whatever your Internet service provider is. Normally they supply McAffe as a courtesy to their patrons.

Please visit http://free.grisoft.com.
A free antivirus that works okay for normal users. There are just too many free antivirus software on the Internet. Some are rogue and some are good.
