If someone said my school was socialist, I would a) laugh at them and shake my head sadly and b) be pleasantly surprised.
Currently, a lot of very high functioning societies are socialist, such as Canada, France, and England.
Being socialist just means that everyone chips in more for taxes, therefore there is free public healthcare (although, I've heard that the E.R. wait is killer) and more government owned shops. However, there's also small shops and business that are privately owned, so there is still individuality.

No, I would not be insulted. I would be pleased.
And there are quite a few countries left that call themselves "socialist". How much they really are a socialist society is however debatable.
The most prominent truly socialist country is and remains Cuba. Other countries with a socialist society are Syria, Burma, Belarus and a number of African states, among them the former Portuguese colonies Angola and Moçambique.

No way. Socialism tries to create equal playing fields for all. It disregards the notions of wealth for creating equality in Education, Healthcare, and Housing(sometimes).
Some examples of socialism are Canada, France, GB, and many other European country's. While they are not completely Socialist countries they have very Socialist parts of there society, most notably Healthcare.

I would laugh and say: "I wish! That would have been grand. But sadly no, it was a death camp instead." Why do you want to know what countries are socialist? It doesn't matter which is and which isn't when it is in regards to whose school was socialist or not. Schools are supposed to be unbiased and apolitical.

if you have to work at being insulted... you probably shouldn't be. all socialism means is that the community should be interested in distributing resources for all its members. there have been horrible versions of socialism, but i don't even know what it means to have a socialist school.
if a student forgets his lunch would you all give him a bite of yours? that's good right? if one student has chocolate cake in his lunch you make him share it with everyone? not so good?
figure out if it's true or not before you worry about being offended.
