I am 6 months pregnant, and in the last month I have gained 11 pounds! My activity has changed slightly, but not that much!. My blood pressure was only 90/48, could the extra weight gain be a sign of gestational diabetes?

I haven't taken the glucose tolerance test yet, and they kept telling me I have to go take it soon, but didn't say why, or anything about my weight. I started thinking about these questions after I came home.

The glucose tolerance test is usually taken between the 24-28 weeks of pregnancy. It takes an hour so be prepared to wait..You drink a sugar solution and wait one hour and have your blood drawn.. I had low bp and did NOT have gestational diabetes. Relax your pregnant this is the one time you can gain weight and it's ok. Maybe you are retaining fluid are you swolen? It is hot and it's normal in the last months of pregnancy. Drink more fluids rest and eat well your doing fine..Just be careful when you get up to not do so quickly.. the BP thing can make you dizzy..

You'd probably know if you had that by now. I had it with my last pregnancy. Have you had your blood sugar checked? They should be checking it by now (or soon?). If it is, don't worry. Knowing is the "fix" --- they took my son immediately, put him on an IV for 3 days to make sure (since he was not eating from me anymore) that his sugar did not have an extreme drop (that can cause mental retardation if they don't know - another reason check ups are important). He is now 17 years old and highly intelligent. Plus, if you go on a diabetic diet, you eat about 7 times a day, you don't get extra hungry and it's healthy. I knew pretty early so I only gained about 22 lbs with him because of the knowledge. They know what to do ...... don't worry.

I'm assuming you have had an ultrasound. Did they say you had extra fluid? I had a LOT extra which they ended up taking a little out to try and stop pre term labor.

You should have the glucose test pretty soon and they will be able to tell you. Just cut out the sugar for a while.

It really could be anything when i had my twins i gained like 8 lbs in one week. Did they do a blood or urine test? Do you feel lightheaded or very nauseated lately? What did the dr say? You shuld really call the dr back and express your concern with him ? It he was concerned it seems as if he would have done some test. Did they say anything about protien in your urine or anything like that at all? The best advice i have is to call him or her and really say your concerned.

could be a lot of water retention causing the weight gain. Also every pregnant woman has to take the diabetes test, I had to take it twice.

i wouldn't worry about it. if the dr was worried she'd send you in for a 3 hour glucose test. some weeks you'll gain more and some you'll gain less and some weeks you'll loose a few pounds. don't worry. just eat healthy and try to get some exercise like walking.

It COULD be but I'd go off whatever your O.B. said. Those last few months the weight seems to really pack on fast. Good luck to you and your baby.

Call the doctor's office and ask. Usually a nurse will answer your questions.

You never know. You need to take the test, just about everyone has to take the test.
