This started recently, and happens while I am using it. Doesn't look like screen saver related. I do have a very weak battery, but I am keeping it plugged.

The battery may be almost dead. When the laptop detects low voltage, it automatically shuts down. The battery may refresh itself enough to start, but then quickly go down.

If recharging doesn't work, and the battery has been used for years, you may need a new battery.

Or the screen could have an electrical or heat problem.

Or the power management settings may have gotten accidentally changed.

You may have to have service look at it.

Good Luck
