I interviewed at the local Humane Society today for an Education Director position. The salary that they offered me is $25,000 a year. It is a salaried job, not hourly. They told me to think about the offer and get back with them if I had a different number in mind. This is a new position that they are creating, so I don't have many resources to go to in order to check if it's a fair amount. Full insurance is included, and they said there would be raises (although I don't know how frequently and what amount). Can someone tell if this is a fair salary, and if not what my counteroffer should be. Thanks so much!

To note, I have a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University. I have 3 years working in a zoological field, and a year working in a National Conservation Area. I think I am very qualified for what they are seeking.

You didn't' say where you lived, how much experience you have or education. Also would the average work week be 40 hours or would you be working more than that.

It's low but they know that or they would say if you had a different number in mind to let them know.

I would counteroffer with 28,500

Being this is a new position I don't blame them keeping the pay on the lower end. But if you do accept the job and they accept the counteroffer.
You need to evaluate yourself and see if the pay is accurate. Have a sit down with them and let them know why you feel you deserve more money.

But keep in mind your benefits are really good! Especially them covering 100%, insuring employees isn't cheap.

I wish you the best of luck!

You could counter with 5% above your current salary. The humane society operates on a small budget, therefore the salary seems accurate but maybe you could stretch them a bit?

maybe you should go with what will fit into your budget if you think that you can get by with 25,000 a year then take the job offer. remember follow your heart and do what you think is best for you.
