You are either sick or trying to get a rise out of people.

Is this your ideal scenario?: 'Your honour, I thought she was 12, not 9'. Absolute shite.

The law in Holland refers to young people within the 12 to 16 age group who have consensual sex with each other. If you are older than that, and have sex with someone in this age group, it's a big NO.

It never ceases to amaze me how anyone can actually condone a sexual act between say, a 45 year old and a 12 year old. Paedophilia is the only psycho-sexual disorder that cannot be cured. They are clever, remorseless, and believe that their sexuality is entirely normal. They are sick beyond belief.

18. That's all I have to say. It makes it very clear then, to everyone, where they stand. As for the paedophile, he or she will always 'rationalise' their predeliction for young children and young teenagers. That is why they are dangerous to others, psychologically and physically. Because this behaviour is so abnormal, the normal amongst us have an intense feeling of revulsion towards these people and their behaviour, who are, let's face it, a dangerous and sick element, which needs to be removed from our society.

You, whoever you are, are a very twisted individual.

Hmm...infact it'll make sick ppl sicker. The sick ppl as u put it are often binded by laws that prohibit their intentions to hv sex to a minor however if the laws are non-existant or revoked or changed the age limit to 12. They'll be a sharp rise in rape cases as a 12 yr old male/female has lil to no chance of defending themselves against a significantly older aggressor, a 12yr old child could also be easily lulled a significantly older aggressor. Statistics show that 82% of offenders in Holland tend to be above the 5yr age gap.

A 12 yr old child could be subjected to this, there for it's advisable that the legal age be 18...as most teens would be both mentally & physically capable to handle these situations also this is to prevent a rise in rape cases.

You forgot the small print... Ie I heard it was staggered...

This means the 12 year old would have to be with someoen say no older then 14, the 14 no older then 16 the 16 with a 17 year old etc...

Also It appears the idea is not kids and adults but kids not end up in jail as two say 15 year old kids in love...

if you also look Holland has the lowest teen pregnancy and std rate.

they educate teens and kids very well about sex and the result is most dont do it even though legal to about 17 on average.

The idea is instead of the law they use education.

they certainly don't want 12 year olds having sex with anyone... but are intellignet enough to understand when hormones start flowing first sexual experiences happen at 14,15, 16, 17, 18 infact the main age IS 17.

And by then they dont have the emotional problems they have here in the uK or in the US...

who need to understand biology...

Funny even though its illegal under 18 how come most disregard the law and you just end up with a lot of kids prosecuted for being er teenagers and acting their age...

Instead of laws you need to educate and support and be realistic...

Then you can can a tiny unwanted teen pregnancy rate, virtually no stds, or kids cutting wrists. Far fewer sex crimes as folk are more open about sex... etc...

No I dont want kids that young doing it at all, Noe have any interest in doing anything with them... Howevert I look at teen pregnancy statistics and know that if 14 years olds are getting pregnant a lot as are 15,16 and its illegal... clearly the system does not work and a different approach required...

Their system works...

And with a lot less teen pregnancies...

A lot less teens on benefits with free houses, not getting benefits but getting jobs intead and more money for hospitals and better spening of tax payers money...

And kids dont gro up witb criminal records as sex criminals as they had a boy/girlfreind at 15.

this the cops and courts concentrate on real peados

You might not know this but this limit only applies to people between the ages of 12 and 16.

If a person between the ages of 12 and 16 commits a sexual act with another person between those ages, they will not be prosecuted unless there is a complaint from the other participant, a parent or a guardian. However, if a person over 16 commits a sexual act with a person under 16, they will be liable for prosecution regardless of whether or not a complaint has been made.

I think this is a good compromise between protecting children from abuse by adults and allowing teenagers to have relationships without criminalising themselves through error or over-eagerness..

In Holland they have legal prostitution and the prostitutes are protected by the police. I think that they are slightly more comfortable with sex than Americans are. However much Americans say that we need to be less modest like in Europe, I think there would be a lot of people fighting the change for sex to be legal at 12.

I think that would be very disturbing if we did that. I mean 12 years old is just way too young. We would have so many pregnancies and there would be more rapes going on. All of the pervs would have a reason to bang a child. It would be awful! Girls that are 12 years old are just starting to go through puberty!

An acquaintance once said with a toothy ignorant grin, "If they're old enough to bleed, they're old enough to breed!" While most have heard off-handed proclamations like this, few would give them any credence because of the question of emotional age and preparedness to enter the sexual world of adults... we need to carefully assess the legislation we enact in this regard... think of your own son or daughter at that age... think of yourself at that age! If we could assure the rights of youth, and be certain that they would not suffer from coercive tactics, then the issue would be moot.

However, as I see it, we cannot, so we need to keep the youth as separate from our adult desires... at least until the world takes on a more loving countenance... one devoid of predatory practices and exploitation.

I agree with some of the other answers, the age should be up'ed to 18. No way should it be 12, children are too inmature and unable to deal with the emotions that come with sex.

How wouldit make sick people better????
What the hell are you talking about?
No - 12 is too young. They are NOT MATURE enough to handle the emotional or physical issues that are attached to sex at 12. If you are not mature enough to handle what the outcome can be, you aren't old enough to have sex.

Not it would just decriminalize sick behavior. A 12 year old does not have the mental capacity to understand all the physical, mental, and emotional consequences of such a decision.
