It is probably the alternator, according to my husband. You should get it checked asap. About $200 to have a new one installed at Crappy Tire.

The "battery" light is an indication of the status of your electrical system...which includes things like your battery, alternator, starter, etc. My first guess is....if it's coming on while you're going down the road, you might have a failing alternator. This is easy to check...most mechanics and even some auto parts places have a little machine that will test it for you for free. They can also test the other components of your starting/charging system.

Hope this helped.

Alternator is toast.
Get a new one. Around $100 - $150 from an auto supply shop. Easy to fit for most mechanically minded folk.
