This is an old story.

A man named Harold Hill, who purported to be a NASA Consultant. stated that NASA computers had identified that a day was missing from their calculations. He put this forward of evidence to support a biblical story about the day the sun stood still for the Hebrew leader Joshua. This was evidence backing up the literal truth of the bible.

However Harold Hill is the only source for this story and he himself has never provided any evidence to back his claim. There is doubt about his working for NASA and NASA deny the story.

I believe it was Harry Rimmer that started the story.
From time to time stories such as the one described above appear — usually in church bulletins or religious publications— as factual and true. No doubt those who propagate such information mean well, and have as their ultimate goal a defense of the Bible against the slings and arrows of infidelity. However, the story which claims that scientists have discovered the “long day of Joshua” is untrue. An investigation into such a claim reveals the following interesting details.

No, but it was the best excuse that the PhD-boys could come up with to explain the effects of the office Christmas party on their timesheets.
