After living this life for some decades I would have to say happy and modest. The loss of my love and the trials of raising children alone most of my adult life have taught many hard truths to me. Happiness and peace of mind are treasures which some don't fully appreciate until life has to be faced without them. Very unhappy is horrible. Distance, in time, helps to overcome most things which cause unhappiness, but what a price is paid!
