I know that I can add a throttle body spacer, tornado(?), cold air intake, and new exhaust but Is that it and will these items help? I would appreciate any sage advice I get from other car enthusists or from someone who has already upgraded their truck.

New Spark Plugs (gapped properly), synthetic oil (slightly more thermally efficient and viscous than traditional oils), properly inflated tires, and maybe a power programmer from Banks, Bully Dog, or Hypertech.

The Tornado is bunk. Think about what the air comes up against weather or not it is spinning... The Throttle Body Butterfly sits smack dab between your Tornado and the Intake Manifold. That butterfly is almost never all the way open (the only way a Tornado might offer any benefit) especially if you are trying to save gas!

Hope this helps!

Keep it in good tune, keep your foot out of the gas, and make sure your tire pressures are correct (even a little higher than what the door sticker says may help marginally). But above all else, your driving style affects your mileage more than anything. Don't buy into gimmicks like the Tornado, they don't work, otherwise the manufacturers would put them on their cars.

Ditto Harry and JW....especially about your driving style. don't speed (of course) and look as far ahead as possible for places you have to stop (like stoplights). when you can see they're red from a good way away...let off the gas and coast...you may hit the light when it goes back to green, and you'll be prepared to stop anyway. Why run as fast as you can to get to a red light, only to slow down your vehicle and the very end...you just wasted all that fuel, only to use up your brake pads braking hard?
