Weeping Willows grow best in full sun, but will tolerate very light shade. Adaptable, they manage in soil that is either coarse with sand or gravel texture or fine with silt. They do not require good drainage, being comfortable in wet, boggy areas. Soil that is acid to neutral (pH 6.6 to 7.5) is fine.
Plant willows in any season, as they are easily transplanted. They have shallow, fibrous roots that establish themselves quickly

Weeping Willows are acutally highly adaptable to almost any soil type which is why they are used frequently in wet locations. They don't need an abundance of nutrients (fertilizing) to thrive.
Is there any conclusive academic research that their roots invade water and sewage pipes? Willow root systems are extensive and can reach pipes, but the real question here is: are pipes already damaged and leaking. In other words, is there already an entry point? Almost any tree and can send roots into sucn an area, and thus, break the pipes apart through normal growth.

This is one tree you really need to be careful with . If you have a body of water on your property or some area where the land is boggy then plant it there it loves water. But be careful if you plant it near waterlines its roots will break through the waterlines . the roots are very tenacious.
