Driving on bald tires is like playing Russian roulette. I'll relate a little story that happened to a good friend of mine...a nice guy but he had zero respect for his vehicle. Used it for a garbage can, threw his fast food wrappers in the back seat and only cleaned it out when it started blowing around in the car... so needless to say he never did any normal maintenance either. He rarely changed oil, just added more when the engine started tapping, and of course, he'd always run the tires down to the cords.

Well, one day he was driving down the highway and one of his bald tires blew out at about 70mph. He lost control, flipped the car, ended up in a ditch and got to spend the next month or so in the hospital with a broken pelvis, leg, and shoulder...plus as an extra insult, one of the empty soda cans he had laying around on the floor hit him in the head, to the tune of about 8 stitches.

After that, he started paying more attention to his vehicles.

In short, bald tires are like playing Russian roulette. It's not a matter of IF it will give out, but WHEN and WHERE. Don't take a chance of injuring yourself, or worse yet, injuring others. And don't say "it won't happen to me", because it will.

Hope this helped a little.

PS...gravvyboat is an idiot for driving on bald tires. Period.

I drive on cheap ***, bald tires. Always have and always will. Nothing really wrong with it, until the tire loses its structural integrity. Once you can see steel, or it is uneven shape, or no longer holds air then you are really asking for a blowout.

Worst case scenario you go off the road into a ditch. If you have never blown a tire, and aren't an experienced defensive driver then you are asking for trouble. A blowout can also untrue you rim, which can cause trouble in your transmission/differential. Rims are expensive to replace.

If you live in a big city this could happen on a highway, putting you in a very dangerous spare tire changing situation. Very dangerous, especially if you aren't great at changing tires and especially with the dangerously minimal jack kits that come with newer, smaller cars.

If you live in the country you could end up soft shouldering and flipping your car. This could seriously injure or kill you.

So... I wouldn't want a woman in my life with really bald, or dangerous tires.

Also, as a man you need to let her get the last word in 90% of the time. Even if you're right, just let it go. But this is safety, so good call!

Bald Tires

First, the tread on tires is not only for gripping in wet conditions but also dry conditions. If your tire is bald then you cannot grip any road that well and even a simple evasive action to avoid a wreck could cause you to spin out of control easily. Even a sharp turn at a bit too high speed could cause you lose control.

Also, bald tires mean that the layer of rubber between the road and the threads of your tire is very small. This means that you increase the chance of having a blowout and that is something you DON'T want to happen.

Your tires are the ONLY things connecting your car to the ground, if you don't keep them in good shape then you are really take your life in your own hands and taking a much larger risk than you should.

I mean, would you ever wear shoes that have a sole made out of plain paper? Similar concept with bald tires.

A lot of things could happen, here are some good ones. :)

The balder the tire, the closer it is so a blow out. Just imagine what would happen if you were going 60 MPH down the road and your front tire blew out.

Bald tires create less friction (friction is good when you want to grab the road), and have less traction. This can cause you to slide during wet conditions. It takes less than 1/4 water to cause a car to slide, if there is no traction. I hope you have no bridges, ditches, trees, light poles, cars, or children in your neighborhood or town. I would hate to see you slide into one.

If it snows where you are from, bald tires are the bane of all society. Turning *will* become a nightmare, and I refer to my last paragraph of things I hope you don't slide into.

There are many more...

It is dangerous indeed, if your tires get bald, they lose traction, and it is difficult to drive car like that, by the fact that braking is hard and you could definitely end up crashing. Recently, I got hit by another driver while I was driving on my way to school. The traffic was at a stop and go and sudden stop, which means that traffic flowed smoothly, but then would stop all of a sudden. I was driving at normal speed but had to brake as traffic slowed down suddenly and came to a complete stop. I braked perfectly but the other vehicle struck me and damaged the rear bumper. The other driver was driving his vehicle under bad conditions. Not only were his brakes responding poorly, but his tires were bald. If his brakes and tires were in perfect conditions, then this accident would never have happened. That is why bald tires are an issue to not just performance, but safety as well.

Bald tires are very unsafe the tire is held together with laminates (glue) these glues get extremely hot on a bald tire and cause the tire to separate (come apart).Bald tires have no way to dissipate water mud snow etc. from under the tire. The tire will the hydroplane float on top of the water mud snow etc. When you try to turn or stop you will keep going and going etc.Good luck from an ASE certified lead tech for 30 years

I used to drive home after drifting at the carpark down the road with friends. One day I was driving back. Wasn't even accelerating. Was decelerating and the whole back spun out on a bend and luckily I didn't crash but it is definatly dangerous. That was in a bmw. I bet this girl has a light little car that'll fly off the road one day. I know alot about cars and driving on bald tyres is definatly a bad idea

Hey, maybe she'll have a blowout on some dark unsavory part of town around midnight and someone like me will get to be a "hero" (if their not to late) and protect her from some things that go BUMP in the night! Or perhaps some good Samaritan will get the chance to scrape her (and any loved ones she may have with her at the time) off the side of the road and tote her/them to the hospital; that's just how good Samaritans are ya' know. Either way there's a chance to meet new and exciting people!
