My mom lives in a trailer, because that's what she can afford on Disability. and I had to pay the down payment at that. (she lives on about $8,000 a year).
She is well-read, spiritual, kind, and yes...very poor.
Her kids are college educated, but we can't afford to buy her a house - so this is what we could do. Apartments were overpriced, and she couldn't garden or have her own (albeit small) yard.
This works for her. Keep in mind most Americans are a paycheck away from homelessness. Those are the people who make fun of "trailer-trash".
As an aside, she has no credit cards, etc., like so many Americans who boast about their "belongings", when in fact their "stuff" still technically belongs to Mastercard and Visa.
