If the last 3 months of service is the same $ as canceling then cancel. Financially it won't make any difference to you and you will be able to get a new phone but you may also have a new contract depending on what provider you go with.
If it will actually cost more to cancel see if you provider can move you to a lower price plan for the remainder of you contract (check for a vaction service, or what their lowest plans are).

T-Mobile is the best, and has the proof to show it. T-Mobile has earned the JD Powers best in customer satisfaction award three years in a row, an is currently at the top for the fourth year. Also, the best overall Cell-site coverage and the best price on rate plans (the GET MORE guarantee). Go to www.t-mobile.com. There is a coverage map where you can plug in your address and get what your coverage is, you can choose a rate plan and phone on the web, and even activate your account online. If you prefer the personal touch, you can call 1-800-TMOBILE, or you can put your address into the store locator search for the nearest location.

Just like you are bound by your contract with your cell phone provider, so is the provider bound by that same contract. Unless you deliberately destroyed this phone, it is up to you to seek out a local office where they will evaluate your phone and make your phone work, at no cost to you, so that you can finish your contract. It may be as simple as replacing the cadmium battery. Of course, they may try to get you to extend your contract but all you need to say is, "No thanks, I will make my decision later."
This happened to me. I accidentally dropped my phone in the sink and as a result my phone died. The provider replaced the battery which would not hold a charge. The provider ended up replacing the battery three times before my phone worked properly again. The phones are designed to handle a lot of abuse. The provider may try to charge you but it is up to you to 'Know your rights' and make sure you have a working phone or that your contract is null and void.

Don't use your phone until your contract ends. Oh, and if you sign up with Virgin Mobile,
there isn't any contracts. That's the network I use. It's lesser known, but it works great, and drops no calls.
