The only one I know is Led Zeppelin. It is bad luck to wish a performer good luck, which is why the phrase "break a leg" is common for them. The thinking is wishing bad luck has the opposite effect. When Plant was going on stage at a club early in the band's career, a friend said "Hope you go down like a lead zeppelin" meaning a horrible crash. It was a variation of "break a leg" that stcuk in Plant and Page's memories.

DEF LEPPARD - Joe Elliot, lead singer, wanted to use the idea provided by the band Led Zeppelin's logo and transformed what he originally had as deaf leopard.

PINK FLOYD - taken from the names of two Georgia bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council - from the early days when the band saw itself as a blues band.

Check out this website.....it shows TONS of em!

DEF LEPPARD- they adopted the name "Deaf Leopard" (which Elliott had thought of in his school days). At the suggestion of Tony Kenning, the name "Deaf Leopard" was slightly modified to Def Leppard in order to avoid comparison to punk bands, and perhaps also as an indirect homage to Led Zeppelin's similarly styled band name.

Pink Floyd is a hybrid name of 2 old jazz musicians, Pink ____ and Floyd Patterson I think. I did a research paper on them 2 years ago, can't remember squat about it now.

Instant Karma was all over it. Good job man. I am ashamed for giving a bad answer like that. Floyd patterson...I suck.

I'm not sure about these two bands that you mentioned, but Zeppelin was told by their original manager that their band would "go down like a lead zeppelin", hence their known name. He wasn't too bright, was he?

ac/dc got their name off the back of an old singer sewing machine. Alternating current/direct current; they wanted people to thing of them as an "electrifing band" Angus and Malcom's sister was making their costumes on said sewing maching.

Drugs had a major influence on most older (and current) rock bands... so... the names probably came from a few drug induced jam sessions.
