I'm addicted to AIM, but my new place of employment doesnt allow it. A while back someone downloaded it and the next day a policy went out against it. Will they know that I use AIM express instead since there is no download?

Yes, they probablly check the system and flag dowloads and sites visited. They may even record keystrokes.

If they don't allow it, they probably will know about it. Every place has the ability, it's just whether they have it set up correctly or even care to track it.

With the common software out there, your work can track every single keystroke you type on your PC. They also have the ability view everything you're viewing, taking snapshots of your screen every second or whenever they want. They can tell if you install a new program.. some companies servers will notify the IT person or peoples when anything changes on the PC. I freaking mean ANYTHING!

If you have a stand-alone PC.. which I doubt. if you have AIM you have internet - probably connected via network. but if it is stand alone, you still have the possibility that they are running a program you don't know about .. that captures all this information and stores it so they can view it later.

I dink around.. but only on breaks. I don't see any problem with that.. they let me make personal local calls on the phone, so this is no different.

I would also assume they would warn you if you are doing something wrong. But they don't neccessarily have to - depending on your states laws and any contracts you signed when you started employment.

DELETING THE FILES ON YOUR PC does not stop them from recording information. Most PC's are connected via a server.. the server stores the history and information. Your PCs history is a different issue and means (usually) very little to your employer as they already have everything they need on their server.

If you are questioning their abilities, you should probably also be questioning your habits - that's if you are worried at all about finding a new job! :) If not, who the flip cares. Have fun! ;)

stay removed from aim Triton. I hate it and it somewhat is a source hog for an basic software. i'm undecided what convey is besides the undeniable fact that it sounds smaller so i could say that. I choose Trillian for aim and Yahoo connections. verify it out.

They may be able to tell if they keep a history of sites visited on their computers.
