Hell yes they should serve time. Their life is about over anyhow and they took one of a persons who's was just beginning.

Yes. Sadly, this is not all that infrequent with the elderly who are often suffering from mild dementia... but in a court of law, that's no excuse if he/she had a valid licence to operate a car. I assume they have already taken the licence away, so that will protect the other children out there, but it doesn't bring the poor unfotunate child who lost his/her life back... and that's the real tragedy behind all this. It may be fair to impose mental testing on a yearly/ periodic basis after a certain age... if only to keep this sort of thing from happening.
At very least, the parents of the deceased child are entitled to major monetary compensation for "wrongful death," even if the driver in question has no insurance.

I'm not sure. What they did was an illegal stupid thing but I am guessing it was not on purpose. I would factor in how much remorse they have shown. That is a hard thing to live with. I know that if it was my child I would be spitting mad but I would want to see their driver's licence taken away for sure and if they were capable A LOT of community service. Maybe jail time but I am not sure that it would help anyone.

Yes, they should. And individuals over the age of 60 should have to take mandatory driving tests every 3 years!!! Old people are worse than teenagers!!!

Given what you said, this person should pay for the crime. It seems they clearly showed disregard for the law on passing a stopped school bus. I say no less than manslaughter.

Lock them up, age is not relevant
And if there age imapcts their driving and they knew their driving skills were questionable I would say use that as a factor to increase jail time

I don't car how old you are. An elderly person knows better than to pull that kind of crap. I hope they rot in jail

Definitely! Being that old that person should have more patience and more common sense. LOCK' EM up, and throw away the key.
