To be honest i think France was the better team, but was unlucky in the penalty shoot out, they showed that they can still play good soccer at any age. they dominated the game after the 19th minute, I can see that Italy had no chance, but to put more defence. Look at the stats and see how France dominated. But unfortunately they were unlucky in the penalty kicks, for some reasons.
But in 2010, I hope France look foward to getting in the finals

I disagree, and not because I'm an Italian fan.
Italy played better during the first half, and France played better during the second half. France's goal was a penalty, Italy's was a real goal. Italy also scored a second goal, but didn't count because it was offside. France had their chance to score a second goal too, but Buffon saved it. Plus, soccer isn't all about offense. It may be more exciting to watch, but defence is a vital part of the game, too.
But I do agree with you on something: France played well, and they got a well-deserved 2nd place. So, congratulations France!!! The French on here should be celebrating, instead of complaining. 2nd best in the whole world doesn't suck at all!!! Be proud!!!

You can look at the stats all you want. You can re-watch the game over and over again, you can say that France dominated parts of the game.
But no matter what you say, think or do, FRANCE LOST!!!!!
France is not the World Cup winner, they are only 2nd best and no matter what happens Italy will always and forever be the winner of the World Cup 2006 and France will not.
Congratulating a team for coming in 2nd? Whats next congratulations for just qualifying? Thought they were there to win, not come in 2nd.

Guys, I agree that France played better.
I would like to remind you though, that when France won the World Cup in '98, they beat Italy in semifinal at penalties, and in that occasion Italy played better.
In the final of Euro 2000 Italy dominated and was winning 1-0 until France scored at the very last minute of the game, and then won the title by scoring a golden goal.
So I am sorry but I think France just needs to accept it...

Get over it . The best team is the team who's holding the Cup .
Yah yah France played better LOL . 1 goal for that stupid penalty . Italy got 1 goal for that offside , hit the cross bar once and Pirlo almost score that free kick . The first half belong to Italy , 2nd half France took over because the Italian team was physicially tired , a result from a full 120 minutes game against Germany . So get over it .

Yes, France completely dominated the beginning of the 2nd half and the entire extra time even after ZZ was sent off. It was pure bad luck that they had to lose in the shoot out but they've certainly impressed everyone with their performance so bravo France, and hope they do the same in 2010.

I am french (but it is not the reason why I have this opinion about the match!)
When seing how some people react in your country on this website about the final, I find them awfully hateful and unfair toward France. Why?
It seems to me that Italia started well the match. but the rest (part 2 + extra time) was dominated by France.
There was no real goal to make a real victory, and unfortunaly we lost at the end.
In France we did not really trust in our "old" (according to our medias!) player, but they offered us a good surprise, and anyway, despite the Zidane Affair,
We thank them for the way they played!!!!

Thank you for this post. After seeing all the negativity towards France and Zizou it makes me happy to see a nice post. I'm looking forward to 2010 too... Maybe we'll make another good run.... France did dominate, we just couldn't finish it off...

It's better to win a III division league than arriving second in the world cup.
Italy scored on action, France just on penality...they had no strenght to be really dangerous.
Second it's quite.....let's say France sucks...and will suck for four years at least ^^

I think so too. You have to give them credit, they had a difficult start but they were able to turn things around and live up to their reputation. That is why it is a shame to see great teams loss on penalties (just like Argentina or England for that matter). FIFA have to come up with something else.
