There little gadgets you can carry around that will tell you when you hit a wireless signal. Wal-mart has em. As far as a map online... eh... maybe for big cities, but nothing universal.

if you download yahoo widgets there is one that shows when there is a hot spot connection in your area

open up your wireless network connections and it will automatically populate with available wireless networks within range.
