The teacher should have noticed this & if not then she is not a good teacher & you should change either teachers or schools.
She should spend extra time with your son to make sure he understands what is being said, you could also ask for information on what he is studying to be given to you weekly along with the current ways of working it out as this changes from when we were at school.

Also have you had his sight & hearing tested recently, it is definately worth checking just to be able to cross off that as a possible reason, also have you considered getting him tested for dyslexia?

He is four! At school the teacher should have been giving him extra help & time to do his work but most importantly he should be doing practical things like playing to learn. This means play with things & by doing that learning to count, spend time with him don't force him to write etc or this will make him have low confidence. I'm a teacher & the kids in our school play lots in the reception class they have fun & learn the basics like their name & how to count & very simple sums & basic reading of words but alot is done through fun things and playing - he is only four - there is plenty of time for him to learn everything else.
I would get him checked for hearing/sight tho & speak to the teacher to see what her opinion is.
Good Luck

I think you should get him evaluated by someone professional who is experienced in that field. Try talking to his teachers, about getting him additional testing. You will not find your answers on here.
