I will be gone on vacation for one week. I feed my beta the regular beta fish food. However, I wondered about what to feed him while I am away on vacation. Will the five day fish feeder shell be okay for the beta fish or can it be harmful to them? I appreciate your opinions!

The vacation feeders are not good for bettas. The food sits on the bottom, whereas bettas are top feeders. The fish would have to turn upside down in order to feed off of it.

Also, the "glue" that holds the feeder together will pollute the water in his bowl as it dissolves, likely killing your fish. Just feed the betta well the day you leave and feed him well when you get back. He won't starve.

Your betta will have a better chance of survival if you don't use a feeder. A week really isn't anything major to a betta. What I'd do is feed the betta about 50% more than normal the 2 days before. Then clean his tank/bowl before you leave. (Don't feed him extra food after the tank/bowl cleaning.) When you come back feed him half his normal amount but do it in the morning, and evening for a couple of days.

Reiterating what metal_chick said, you're better off feeding him a little more than usual before you leave. He will be hungry but okay until you get back.

Or you could find a neighbor or friend to fishsit for you (that's what I do). Clean the tank before you leave, and take the tank to their house so all they have to do is feed him.

i have to agree with metalchick, if you can, try and suspend the feeder near the top of the tank.as she said, they are top feeders thier mouths face upward.don't makehim work so hard for his meal.also, if at all posible ; cuold someone else care for him for the week?
