I had a full vaginal hysterectomy last august. The doctor never put me on any hormone pills or any meds. I have heard that after your hysterectomy you need the hormone pills to level it all out.
All of a sudden a week ago I have started getting out of control moody! Besides that I have been fine. Anyone have any idea why I am not on them, and if I should be on them?

I think that was awfully irresponsible of your doctor not to put you on anything, or even talk to you about it!

If the moodiness is just now showing up, it may have less to do with your hormones than something else.

You can always try adding soy to your diet (it contains plant compounds that mimic estrogen) or using natural supplements like black cohosh. There are commercial supplements that are supposed to make menopause symptoms calm down in drug stores, too.

It's probably best not to go on hormones unless you absolutely have to. They can increase your risk of heart attack and make you gain weight.

GOOD LUCK!

I am assuming by "full" hystectomy, you mean your ovaries were removed as well. In that case, your doctor is completely irresponsible for not at least OFFERING you the option of HRT and going over your various choices! I am horrified that a medical professional would expect the patient to do the research and broach the subject to him/her, rather than the other way around - which is his/her job. In any event, start by talking to your primary care physician or find a new GYN who can review the various choices for HRT and you can find one that works for you. Good luck and I'm sorry this happened to you.

Your dr. should have put you on something. I would get in touch with him/her and discuss your options. Glad to hear you're not having hot flashes! :0)

I had my hysterectomy in Sept. of last year (was 37) and have a hormone patch that I'm on.

The natural supplement Menopause Balance Complex is very effective for moodiness. I would not recommend HRT.

Yes! That's a terrible doctor. She/he should have told you about your options. Call and make the doctor tell you today! Estradoil patch is great! I've tried many types of HRT.

Depends on your age...if you had it after menopause - no. Pre-menopausal -you should be on it unless you are at risk for breast cancer -estratest is good.
