The main difference in factory equipment is the Adventure has a larger gas tank and came from the factory fitted with knobby type off-road tires and crash bars. The transmission and final drive gear ratios may be a bit different also, but not much. Other than that, there's not a whole lot of difference between the GS and GS-Adventure.

Drop by a BMW dealer or log onto BMW's web site and compare the new R1200GS and R1200GS-Adventure. Pretty much the same differences in equipment.

Apart from the bigger gas tank, crash bars as standard, and a slightly lower final drive ratio, the suspension front and rear has a greater travel, which results in a higher seat height. Also, the seat itself is different, being a one piece unit, rather than the standard bikes two piece. The tyres were offered as a choice of knobbly or road.

Personally, I'd go for a standard bike and add the crash bars and big tank.

I don't know the answer to your question, but it isn't often that I see Beemers being discussed on here. I have an 1100RS and I love it!!! You can't go wrong with a BMW.

Ride on!
