You're so tired because the developing baby is essentially a parasite , leeching what it needs to develop from your body. Your body is expending energy by providing all the things your baby needs. If you need to nap, take them.

I was extremely tired for my 1st trimester. It got better for me during the 2nd but I was exhausted again in the late trimester. Keep some dry, unsalted crackers with you, it'll help with the nauseousness.

Your breasts will get tender, especially your nipples and you'll find that wearing a bra is going to be uncomfortable because of the fabric rubbing on them. I used to cover my nipples with bandaids and that helped reduce the friction alot.

Your food intake is important, so I hope you're eating even if you're not sure what sounds good. I was like that initially until my cravings kicked in. I ate macaroni and cheese and Spam (YUCK) for like a month. Thankfully that passed and I moved on to other cravings like chinese food and tacos. The cravings that stuck with me the longest were tacos, chocolate, mashed potatos, buttermilk biscuits, pancakes and apple pie.

As you move along in the pregnancy, you'll use the bathroom a lot more. You'll also probably become really gassy, burping and passing gas alot. And heartburn.

Oy. I had the worst heartburn. You'll want to keep a container of tums with calcium with you at all times. You'll want the one with calcium because antacids steal calcium from your bones, but at least you'll be replenishing it a little.

Let me start by saying "Congratulations". Being pregnant is the single most exciting, frustrating, nauseating, exhausting, and rewarding thing that can happen! You are in the first trimester, which means your body is trying to get everything ready for this "entity" to grow and become your new baby. Some women, like myself, didn't have "morning sickness",...we have "all day/all night sickness". I used to carry a bag of "Goldfish" with me and nibble on these,..it seemed to help the nausea and keep me from feeling hungry. I know food is the last thing you think you want, but it's really the thing you need most. Everyone is different, so try a few suggestions to see what works best for you. As for the fatigue, I think I was sleeping an average of 15-18 hours a day,...I was always tired. Rest whenever you can,...because once the baby is here, you can kiss sleep goodbye for awhile :).

All these symptoms will subside as you approach your second trimester. Enjoy the anticipation of what's about to happen. This new Life is about to turn your world upside down and inside out,...but don't worry. You will feel a love within for this child like you've never known before.

Take one day at a time. You'll be fine.

I know exactly what you are going through, almost verbatim. I have the same problem, being crazy hungry, then not wanting to eat, and if I do, I can't usually finish a quarter of a serving because I just don't want it anymore. I am tired, ALL the time. I am okay for the first half hour after I get up, then I just want to go back to bed, but I have never been big fans of naps, so I try not to take them. Nearly every smell makes me queasy. My sons diaper pail, even though we don't leave poopie diapers in the house, they get taken immediately outside, still the musty smell in there makes me queasy. The thought of some kinds of foods does it too. But I'm so damn hungry ALL the time! By breasts aren't really sore but that's because I am still weaning my son (check out my other questions on my Q&A page if you wanna know details about that!). I am about 8 1/2 weeks now, and I am counting the days till this is over. It seems to be getting worse for me every day. I am not sure if that is because I had one day that was worse then the others, then the next day I just have my self nervous and psyched out so I end up feeling worse or what. I do remember with my first pregnancy though that almost to the day of starting my second trimester, my symptoms were 100% better. All of a sudden I had energy and an appetite, and I could actually eat lol. Congratulations on the new baby, and good luck!

I have been there!!!!

I'm now nearly 5 months pregnant but my early weeks were hellish.

My first signs of pregnancy were sore breasts, pinkish discharge, period pains that started very early on and wouldn't go away and a period that was nothing more than a little spotting which lasted a day. I got a positive test result 2 days later.

Nausea kicked in almost straight away and like you I never actually vomited (good thing as I have a phobia of vomiting) but I felt very sick all day every day and so tired and awful. I remember crying down the phone to my mother, telling her that I didn't feel pregnant, I felt ill!!!

Certain foods just made me heave, such as the smell of fried food. And I craved all sorts of awful unhealthy rubbish! I completely went off chocolate and green tea (my two favourite things in the world!) and started eating things I'd never eaten in my life before, like Porridge (Oatmeal). I was thirsty all the time and constantly sipping orange squash (cordial). Fizzy things just made me feel worse.

I actually felt better when my stomach was full. The minute it started to get empty then the nausea would hit me hard. The best thing to try and eat is something fairly bland and filling such as potatoes, bread, yoghurt, rice, pasta or porridge (oatmeal). Try fruit smoothies as well - you can get the goodness of the fruit but its easier to sip a drink than to eat sometimes.

Don't be afraid to see your doctor about this - there are things that can help you. I found ginger root tablets did help the nausea little but none of the other natural remedies worked and in the end I was given an anti-nausea tablet which is safe in pregnancy (they do exist!). My symptoms cleared up by themselves around weeks 12-13.

If you are struggling to keep going with these feelings and need to take time off from work or study then don't feel ashamed about this. Not all women sail through their first months of pregnancy. Some (like me) need to rest and let their bodies adjust to the huge changes taking place inside them.

Good luck!!!

I didn't find out I was pregnant until i was almost 3 months. No symptoms at all! UNTIL... lol, I relized I was eating more and gaining abunch of weight, but like you, I was never into being active...so I thought I was just gaining weight, when I relized I was Pg my food cravings had just completely stopped. my dr told me even though i really wasn't hungry the baby needs some sort of nurishment everyday, and just eat really small meals and snack throughout the day on crackers etc.... My "Morning, Afternoon, and night" sickness didn't start until about a month ago... and whew, i'm not the one for vomiting... ugh.. but usually when i did, I would just eat some crackers right after and some water and I was fine for the rest of the day! :-) maybe you'll get lucky and just have morning sickness! I had all three!
Hope this helps! :-) God bless!

All of those are common symptoms in the first trimester. Don't fight them, if you are tired take a little nap, if you are hungry but nothing sounds good, have a light snack (a banana or crackers) and as far as the nausea the best thing I found for it was water and plain saltines almost always would settle my stomach. Other than that have fun, and enjoy the whole experience.

Yes!!!! Your body is going though so much right now you are going to feel tired even if you do nothing all day. And your hungry cause you are now giving half your nutrients to your baby, so eat healthy and more frequent to get rid of the hunger pain.
I never got sick but i was nauseous all the time, especailly when i brushed my teeth, it made me gag everytime! I sucked on suckers and chewed gum when i wasnt eating to distract my mind from wanting to throw up. And yes my boobs hurt more then ever before, its all normal and it will go away in a month or so... Good Luck, its a fun experiance

It is totally normal to be that tired. If your nausea is getting in the way of your nutrition, please go to the doctor and get an anti nausea prescription, it sounds like it is really interfering with your
appetite, and your growing baby's nutrition! Soreness in the breasts is also quite common, no worries there.
Try some clear liquids first popsicles, Jell-O, 7-up, and such.
Then, maybe move on to some crackers or dry toast.
Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins.

I always liked Ritz crackers when I felt like you do. Be sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins so you are getting the nutrition your baby needs. Yes, I was as tired as you when I was 5 weeks pregnant. I felt MUCH better at 12 weeks. You probably will too.

I never threw up but felt nauseous like you. I would order food I thought I wanted and when it would get to me, it would make me sick to look at it. I couldn't even see white gravy on a TV commercial without wanting to hurl. It all passed after month 3.
