If hockey was 90 minutes long, there would be 30 minute periods.. That would be EXTREMELY tiring for the players. Sad to say, hockey IS a WAY harder sport than the other two mentioned. Rugby.. well, I don't watch it. And a football game always gives you rest periods. For a defender, the rest period is when the ball is in the attacking third and vice versa for a striker. For a midfielder, the rest period is whenever your team has the ball. They're just making simple 1 touch passes and moving around. With outside midfielders, the rest period is when you get the ball. Most outside midfielders have the ball and slowly progress with it. For example, Ronaldo is always on the corners, doing his stepovers. Stepovers aren't really a hard thing to do.. so he's doing two things at one time. Ronaldo is confusing his defender and getting rest at the same time. :)

lol nice one waynewalsh! wot are you talking about flunkywoman? and "hello" he's talking about the beautiful and original sport of FOOTBALL (the one where you actually use your FEET to play the ball around), and not the american version that makes TONNES of sense!!.. ADAM i bet its because the people who created this time rule had kept into consideration the fact that the players are all humans and that it would be mad to ask them to play for more than 45 minutes in one half.

Football is longer than 90 minutes. is broken down into quarters, but with timeouts, pentilies, commericals. it is longer than 90 minutes. and lets not forget overtime too. if you find it is to long than maybe it's not the sport for you.
