FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOM!
It is a lifelong occupation for the Scottish. Although Scotland in name, they are still UK. I doubt that really has as much to do with it anymore, but there will always be a low level animosity for any country that occupied you in way. Even if that occupation was "for your own good."
If you notice, the Americans don't have that much of a grudge against the Brits. That is because we aren't part of the UK, and we kicked the Brits out. We came to a mutual understanding. You leave, and we won't keep costing you money. Now we are buddies. :) AND, we mutually cost each other money!

Sections of the media blew up simple football rivalry into an issue of English-hating racism. The Sun called any Scottish person who supported any team other than England "tartan toss-pots".
Any surprise that it's the same papers who use acres of newsprint bleating on about "French froggies" etc. etc., and shout "hurrah" when a loaded survey says that most English people will refuse to vote for a political party lead by a Scottish person in the UK elections?
Do Everton fans start supporting Liverpool if their team gets knocked out of the FA cup?
Us Scots were just jealous that England had made it to another World Cup without us, OK? Simple football rivalry. Get over it.

I grew up in Scotland and as a English person it was torture. Of course not all Scottish people hate the English but it is so ingrained in them that they just do! I was tormented and bullied so badly that I had to be taken out of school. I was then the subject of verbal abuse at work for being English. They cannot get over the past. They cannot accept that the people alive now are not responsible for the things that happened in the past, they still take it out on innocent people. I cannot believe how much hatred they still have, and yes, it is just the same as people being nasty to black people or Indian people, it is racist.

Why don't you ask the Irish the same Question. ?
The reason is that England has fu@ked over Scotland in the past - politically, economically etc. Mainly beacesue the English THINK they are better than the Scotts.
That's it. It's deep rooted cultural differences.
also - the Scotts would choose Fiji over England (because Fiji has never done anything to Scotland)

Good Question.
I know many Scots supported Trinidad And Tobago, I am from Trinidad and Tobago, and while i wanted England to lose against us i supported England to win the cup, and i was really heartbroken. By the way 98%of Canada never support the USA in any sport. I guess it really is a neighbourhood rivalry.
It happens everywhere

IT'S JUST FOOTBALL!!
I like English people. My wife is English. I supported England during the Ashes (like most of Scotland).
It's just an old football rivalry.
Did Spurs fans support Arsenal in the Champions League final? Would Wolves fans want the Baggies to win anything? Of course not!
Try not to take it personally. You're our nearest neighbours and we love you really. Like an annoying kid brother, we just do it to wind you up.

this is no longer a uk get entry to to the international cup; England is a rustic in simple terms as scotland is a rustic. Scottish human beings ascertain, on the activities when we've not qualified, which different u . s . a . to help. i'd in my opinion chosen this on both a rustic i respect for his or her footballing historic previous or ability or a rustic which i think an affinity for - those respectively are Brazil or eire. i think neither for England - Their skills are below brazil and that i do no longer experience affinity for an imperialist u . s . a . who oppressed no longer in basic terms Scotland yet many countries the international over in the days of the Empire ( i recognize it became observed as the British Empire, yet surely it became the E nglish Empire. Her's tae us whae's like us , damn few and their awe deid !!

Englands OK. Their media on the other hand must take a lot of responsibility for making the team... 'unsupportable'.
John Motson, Ian Wright, Gary Lineker, Clive Tyledsley, Danny Baker, David Baddiel, blind Russian linesman, the old soldier in Braveheart who licks Murron's face, and even Alan "you can't win anything wi' kids..." Hansen.... Need I go on?

i was at the world cup and im scottish. we dont hate the english, its just a football thing. we spoke to a number of english fans and the vast majority of them were sound toward us, and us to them too. its like a friendly rivalry as far as im concerned anyway. btw one of the main reasons we didnt support the english was because we were supporting the boys from trinidad and tobago, who play in the scottish divisions, eg:latapy, andrews, scotland etc.
