I have a college degree and have applied for jobs I'm very qualified for and don't even get an interview. Do they prefer local applicants? How do I get an "in" there?

Like any other job that you may apply for out of your state it is difficult to get an interview...make sure your cover letter states you are relocating to the area and give a specific date. Make sure you follow up with the company you apply with to see if you can speak to someone there and re assure them that you are not looking to get paid for relocation expenses. Last but not least review your resume and apply to some local jobs to see if you get any calls, if you don't it's not them, it's you.
