I love Papelbon, but it's Rivera, and he's earned the closer spot at the All-Star game. He's been the best closer the past 10+ years.

There's a reason why Rivera is known as "the best (closer) in the business" Not to discredit Papelbon, but it's been half a season. Let's see if he can continue down this road and see how he handles loss. He may very well be the real deal but then again he may be a flash in the pan. Time will tell. Rivera is a true veteran who's numbers speak for themselves. He earned his role in the Allstar game.

Rivera didn't start being dominating until the 1998 season(not exactly 10 years). Papelbon has been incredible this year, rookie or not right now he is the best closer with BJ Ryan being a closer 2nd.

Ozzie said since Papelbon pitched the day before he would not use him, Mo was not pitching that good. He got 3 outs but each ball was tagged. Good thing AROD wasn't at 3rd because the baseball would have been through his legs a few times.

What is Your question? Rivera is the #1 closer in the game he has been doing for 10 yrs now and he is almost guareenteed to close out the game. Papelbon is good but he is a lot younger and hasnt been doing it for as long. plus boston is talking bout moving him to starter next yr.

G. I say that because i recognize Mo receives the keep. that's a finished deal. by the way, Mariano Rivera hasn't ever received any award. Ever. No MVP, No Cy youthful, no Roberto Clemente, no longer something. for my section, there should be a palms award or something for relievers. Mo has a ninety six% threat of having the keep this 12 months- forty 4/forty six. And at one aspect, he had a stretch of like 37 (wager) immediately saves. And one in all his blown saves became in the first 2 weeks of the season. heavily, even as Mo is for sale in i will notably a lot turn off my television.

Rivera is more proven, and Francona asked Ozzie not to pitch Papelbon. he pitched 4 times last week and threw over 50 pitches over the weekend. Papelbon is still better this season than Rivera, and Rivera is starting to lose it, he isn't as good as he used to be.

Well what exactly is youre definition of best? Do you mean the most saves? Thats goes to Bobby Jenks. Do you mean least blown saves? That also goes to Bobby Jenks with one. Do you mean most proven in the clutch? Thats Mariano Rivera, even Jenks was in the post season last year. Bottem line, Papplebon is having a good year but this game was important. Ozzie had the right to put whoever he felt put them in the best position to win. Which they did.

I think Right now paplebon is the best closer in baseball. I think rivera , jenks and ryan are all very good as well. I think that ozzie should have played paplebon for at least one batter. I mean come on the guy is f***ing awesome and he is a rookie give the guy the credit he deserves.

Com ing from a Mets fan, they're both so good that its rediculous to try to distinguish between them for one inning. Both are virtual a garenteed goose egg.
