All Along The Watchtower- Jimi Hendrix
The only Dylan cover even Dylan thinks is better!
Alternatively :
Rock & Roll- Half Man Half Biscuit
Much funnier than the Zeppelin Version.

I have heard a lot of good cover songs, but probably the best group to do cover songs was Rare Earth. ( Get Ready, & I Know I'm Losing You). It's cool to hear old songs done new, and some modern instuments added that were not in the original.

I don't think it's better than the original, but I love 311's cover of The Cure's Love Song

all Metallica cover songs are way better than the original. Especially Turn the Page, Whiskey in the Jar, and Tuesday's Gone.

Jimi Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower. It was originally done by Bob Dylan, but the Hendrix version is sooo good. Dylan is a great songwriter, but not much of a singer.

Nouvelle Vague's cover of Love will tear us apart by joy division. Love the original too. In fact the whole Nouvelle Vague ablum. All bossa nova covers of early 80s new wave and punk songs. the clash, the cure, the ramones, depeche mode sisters of mercy. All amazing. If you like chilled and sexy summery sounds and you like the originals.

"I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself" by Burt Bacharach, performed by The White Stripes.
Also recorded by Tommy Hunt, Dusty Springfield and Dionne Warwick.
The White Stripes version takes a lyrical, romantic ballad and gives it a massive kick up the proverbial. The short solo lick at the end is one of my favourite bits in any song ever.

I personally enjoy Red Hot Chili Peppers' version of "Higher Ground". Stevie Wonder's original has a funky/psychedelic vibe, while RHCP's version is flat out aggressive. I appreciate the fact that they went in a totally different direction.
