to be a cowboy do you have to live on a ranch or can you just the hat and boots and be a cowboy

I'm not a cowboy but I think you'd be a pretty funny poser just dressing like one...
The "cowboys" I know from reining and cowhorse barns don't always dress up like that. just be yourself dude.

Cowboy is a state of mind. However, If'n your just wearing boots and hat, hoping that makes you a cowboy, you've totally miised it! And Yes, you will have to have actually worked cattle at some point, or at least ride in thr Rodeo.
