what would i have to do to persue a carreer in cars i want to design cars or make the clay models what would i have to do? what should my portfolio consist of

Yes. well what you want to do is called Industrial Design. This degree will teach you how to design anything industrial even cars.
Try to find colleges that have this program. Keep in touch I am art and design major too.

drawings, drawings and more drawings. If you choose engineering, make sure there is an art element in the course (many don't have this).
