I've listed some good sites I used when I taught. I'd find sites and send lists home for parents to use for holidays, weekends, and Summers for those who wanted to keep their child prepared and not forget over a period of not attending school. A child does forget some over the Summer. The best thing you can do is take him to your local library and if he already doesn't have one, get him a library card and take him to the special event Summer things that are always very artistic, motivational, fun, and they have programs to encourage kids to read so many books and they win prizes, etc. You can also rent movies that are movie versions of books. Let him read the book and watch the movie and you ask him to compare the characters, settings, purposes, etc. He will learn that the book and movie are seldom ever alike. Every day during the Summer, you child should be reading at least 45 minutes, and you can break it up any way you feel holds his attention the best. If he can read an hour a day, that's even better. It would help if he sees the rest of his family reading also, for a child whose parents/caretakers read serve as an exemplary role model for him. The materials he reads can be magazines, books, travel guides you get at travel agents, order brochures or ask the travel agents for Disney World and fun kid places to visit guides, recipe books, cereal boxes, anything you can imagine. The child who reads can become anything he wants to be. Here's the sites:

Patriot Self Defense system is successful for two primary reasons. The very first is that it make use of easy steps integrated from all the best fighting styles out there. The 2nd is that the manufacturers of this program didn't stop there, they took these steps right into the research laboratory and ran all sorts of scientific tests to collect as much data as possible prior to setting to work to assess this information and put together a clinical established protection system that fairly truthfully transforms the market.
Feel safe with Patriot Self Defense

Try putting 'free worksheets' or 3rd grade worksheets in your search engine. I've been looking this summer and have found that schoolexpress.com is great. I'm a teacher and teaching a different grade level for the summer. Another one is phonicsworld.com

Worksheets are not fun at all for students. They tend to be very boring and children lose interest fast. My advice would be going to a "teacher" store to buy games or other activities. If you do not have one in the area then look at some websites online. Here are a couple you can check. www.discountschoolsupply.com and www.themailbox.com

I homeschool my kids (2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade) and some of my favorite sites for free are http://www.eduplace.com http://www.teachrkids.com/fronts//worksheet-2.htm
http://www.kinderstart.comhttp://www.internet4classrooms.com/skills_3rd.htm (my favorite....they have hundreds of links in different subject areas with free online activities and worksheets)

Enchanted learning is great for worksheets as well....its free, but for 20 bucks a month you can print worksheets with no advertisements on them or anything just like he would get at school......the internet for classrooms link I gave you is the greatest...please check that site out...he will love it. Thats my kids' favorite site. There is so much for them to do, they never get bored.

Worksheets are a bore!! There are a ton of websites out there that use games to teach! I suggest finding a multiplication game to get a kickstart on those facts!!! He will get plenty of pencil/paper work in school. Let him have fun for the rest of his short summer!! Remember learning can be fun!!

Here are a couple of sites that give you free worksheets:
www.about.com
ed.gov/pubs/compactforReading/table3.html
Actually, if you wanted more just go to your search engine and key in 3rd grade worksheets. There seems to be lots to choose from depending which subject you want him to prepare for.
Good luck.
