During a reading, one line was "It's a wise man who says nothing out loud" and I think it's rubbish and told the writer I relax with Y answers and would see what they think and he said thats just kids f*cking about. So I made a note to ask today. Does it make any sense?

It's the writers language and he uses it all the time like everyone else around here except a few pf us. I was quoting- Have you ever worked in a theatre?

I'm with you. Firstly, it's an oxymoron so it can't make sense, secondly he's presuming himself sufficiently wise to be able to describe how a wise man behaves, thirdly if a wise man said nothing then it would only be him that knew he was wise - i.e. of no use to anyone.

In a dramatic or literary context such as the character delivering the line being a David Brent-esque nitwit, it could be very funny but if he really means it seriously then he should think about changing his career.

Yes, it does make a certain amount of sense.....I think it means a wise man thinks things through before verbalizing anything.

And just so you can tell your writer friend correctly, Y Answers ISN'T just kids f*cking around. I'm 53. And I'm not "just" f*cking around (although sometimes I DO).....I actually enjoy getting to share some of my hard earned life experiences with others.

Your writer is ignorant. I think it is a good quote. It makes sense and is not rubbish to me. One more thought, mind you language, even with asterisks. There are those on here who will report you just for that.

Yes some people do talk to much or speak without thinking. But anyone who has nothing to offer is just selfish. As Confucius said: "a few words can lighten the rain".

Actually I just made that up, but it might be true.

It makes sense to me. It also makes sense to me that you would not get it. Why would you ask these people on Yahoo! Answers (when most of them are not sincere) what something means when you could discuss it with the author them-self? That would be the best idea. But, it's also obvious to me that you wouldn't even think of doing that, I mean, your question barely makes any sense.

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak up,
because I wasn't a communist,
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up,
because I wasn't a Jew,
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up,
because I was a Protestant,
Then they came for me,
and by that time
there was no one left to speak up for me
