On 24 October 2000, Champions League, Hamburger SV - Juventus 3-1, Zidane butthead was worst than the last one... but that match wasn't such an important one as a WC final...
Today we are in July, there aren't great news, people is having or waiting for holidays, all network are focused on WC yet...
So the breaking news is Zidane's butt... again and again ...
To increase a fading interest (it was 3 days ago!), we are endlessly talking about:
1. What does Materazzi say to Zidane?
2. Was it a racist insult?
3. Does anybody the right to react to a racist insult?
4. Is Materazzi worth of banning?
5. Must Zidane lose Golden Ball award?
--- ugh ---
This works well to networks, but is boring to me...

NO !!! You might think so if you were French.
Italy will rejoice no matter what - They WON.
France - will delibarate the incident all day long, but only because they LOST. If they won - France would not care about the incident. The French would love to think that this makes a difference to anyone.
Rest of the World - Zidane great footballer - but poor role model and sportsman
Press - Scandal sells more papers !
Hostory will only remember - Italy Winners of WC2006.

no ones above the rules but Zidanes the best footballer this decade and should know better, especially with millions of children looking on, he should however disclose the reason if he doesn't the bad parts of football will always remain there are two sides to every story and we should know his. If there was no reason then he should be banned from all appearances to show the world spot will not tolerate this type of behavior. There was however a previous game where a head butt occurred with no re action from FIFA perhaps he thought this is the way to go I cant retaliate with a punch push or abuse but FIFA are tolerant of head butts I'll go that way.

No. history is made by winners not losers. Here Zidane is the loser. This will only be remembered as disgraceful act which Zidane will regret for a long time. That is it. That Italy won will remain in history.

Unfortunately yes, as this is all people seem to be talking about.
As a neutral (I'm Scottish), I think that Italy deserved their victory, over the tournament as a whole (the semi-final against Germany was superb).
But the sad fact is that yes, ZZ's moment of madness (no excuses, no matter what the provocation), has grabbed all the headlines.

I don't think so. I read some comments by the Azzurri where they state that they're way too happy about their victory that nothing, including Zidane's stunt as well as the betting scandal, is going to marr their celebration. Now....all they're thinking of is their upcoming summer vacation with their families.

Yep. Zidane is the most popular football player in the world right now and when he does something that outrageous, its bound to claim the head lines for weeks and weeks. I still love Zizou tho

It sure has taken the shine off their victory. I mean, it isn't even making as many headlines as the headbutt! Even now, we're all eagerly waiting to hear what zidane has to say.
