Start volunteering at one near you, If there is not one find a womens shelter or a homeless shelter. (contact family services in your area to find one). You will learn a lot from talking to social workers and seeing how shelters operate. Find one in another city if there are none in your area and see if they can give you info on operations. Arrange a visit with them or one of their directors.
