Evolution takes millions of years. Humans have probably only been batting wasps around for 40,000 at the most...and to a wasp nest with thousands of wasps, losing a wasp is not a big deal. In fact it probably foes unnoticed. Probably 10 or 20 wasps die every day of other causes, so there really isn't anything to gain by not buzzing around people's heads. The only way wasps will evolve is with the queen evolving, because she is reproductively active, and the only way she's going to evolve is if there is some sort of test of her fitness.

They seem to have adapted to human surroundings, they have actually learned that we are an easy source of very good food. We usually eat high sugar diets, both in liquid and solid form. The pay off is worth the risk in their minds I guess. Many animals that have those warning colors are usually pretty bold as well. They assume that because of their coloration, we will not bother them... not the smartest assumption on their part! Insects have never actually demonstrated the ability to learn, no matter how much conditioning they receive. They will continue to bother us for as long as we drink soda otuside I guess!!! I hope that answers your question! Good one...

The ones that we kill can't pass on the gene that would modify the behavior. The ones who run us off are the ones who reproduce. So I guess we have to come up with a non-lethal way of teaching them to keep their distance, like blowing cigar smoke at them.
