Thank you David for asking a real question about a real issue, unbiased and not hateful.
I'd like to know more about your timetable, how long and what do we do during that time in occupation....
Here is my take:
The country isn't stable. We must stabilize it by building a massive occupying force...fear is what kept them in line under Saddam, it is the only thing they understand. There must be a military presence on every street corner. We give the lame a$$ Iraqi government one year to shape up. If they can go six months after that year without even one attack on troops or civilians we pull out, after an attack the clock resets. US troops will be held accountable for their actions, if after military trail they are found guilty, they will then be given over to Iraqi courts.
In the mean time we must help rebuild their infrastructure. Power plants, roads, schools, telecommunications, playgrounds, skate parks shopping malls the whole nine yards. These projects will be paid for by Iraq through oil sales. American "know how" and Iraqi workers. The unemployment rate of the country would be ZERO, crime very low and well educated children would create stability.
Just as in this country it is hard to know where to start. Yes education is a key factor, but hard to educate a child who deals with fear and violence on a daily basis..security is paramount

We don't really have much choice now. We stay until they can take care of themselves. We have to stay long enough to train a private into a sargent. We have to stay long enough to train a lieutenant into a general. In other words, years. They said this from the beginning. HELLO PEOPLE, IT TAKES YEARS TO TRAIN A MILITARY FROM SCRATCH. Actually the do have a rough time table. Their military is coming online and so is the police. They have experience and it has been years. Many of our Troops will probably be home next year or soon after.
The first time we left Germany the made WWII, the second time we stayed and Germany became a friend.

I would bring home the troops and make this a war on terrorist. I would use special forces to bring down the major cells all over the world. I would find Bin Laden and bring him to justice. I would use the hundreds of billions of dollars and use it to beef up homeland security and fund Special Ops Clandestine missions to kill terrorist cells and real countries that fund terrorism not Iraq who did not fund terrorist. The world would be safer and we would wipe out a lot of the terrorist we don't have time for because we are bogged down in Iraq. We would be free to use our force in a more suited fashion for fighting a enemy we cannot see.

How do you know there is not already a time table set up? If this site is any indication of the intelligence we have out there, as a military strategist I would not be too keen on letting the enemy know too much.
I believe we are doing the right in Iraq, we are there by their invitation and we will leave when they are ready for us to go.

I would pull out the troops immediately, I would bring charges of treason against George and company, and would cut the military buget by 75%. I would also tax everyone who profited from Iraq by 98%.

I would be more organized as far as setting up political government. As far as our troops, they have to stay and finish otherwise it sends the message , we start things we can't finish. I think the troops spirits are high and understanding about their mission there and they want to see success, for what they've worked for..

Honestly? I would bomb the hell outta that country and call it a day. Do you think this war would've lasted this long in the 50's or 60's? No, cause back then, we got the job done. I am tired of losing American's to these scum. Stop avoiding their churches, stop trying to be tactical, bomb the insurgent locations, understand there will be significant collateral casualties, and come home. Easy as that.

I'd go over there and try to become a citizen. Then I would see if I could survive for three months in Iraq without being killed. If I made it alive for three months then I would update you on what I would do next about Iraq.
