My son was refused a job because he had a goatee...I read somewhere that some people consider a person with facial hair to be untrustworthy....I guess that is why politicians are mainly clean shaven!

I have reservations about that being the actual reason he was refused - I say this because goatee's are so commonplace and have been for quite some time. Plus, that's easily remedied with a razor and a can of shaving cream.

If your son was truly the best candidate for the job and they had a policy against facial hair, then he would have been advised of this upon receiving an offer of employment.

It's probably a lot more feasible that he simply botched the interview - it's happened to us all. Maybe he had a good interview but there was another candidate(s) who had a GREAT interview.

Tell him not to obsess about it, after all everything happens for a reason. This particular opportunity could have fallen through because there's something better coming along any second now.

No, unless they are arab looking and then I usually do not trust them. Many employers have rules or policies that prohibit facial hair which is within their right to do. I work for one such employer and everyone must be clean shaven. This is the food industry I work for though so it makes sense. Would you want someone with some big beard serving you dinner? Probably get a few hairs in it along the way.......

If you son was refused a job because he has a goatee surely that is discrimination, he should do something about that.
I think it depends on the beard, little goatees can look really sexy, I dont like the big overgrown look though. And in some jobs it would freak you out, like a chef

It once was an old saying that pertained to sailors and men of the sea. Since times have change this odd philosophies have faded away. Many cultures encourage facial hair. Our culture has evolved to paramount such wives tales. However; remember Disney has a policy of no facial hair to this day; if you're working inside their theme park; with the exception of character play.

I might be bias on this since I have a beard. But so does my Rabbi and I trust him. Its silly to think that I person that is clean shaven is more trustworthy than someone that isn't. Its like me saying that woman with red hair lie.

I think guys with beards are either sexy or wholesome, perhaps fatherly looking. Therefore I trust them more than I should. Actually, I don't think it makes a difference one way or another. If anything guys with beards are lazy because they don't want to shave. Unless the have beards for religious purposes, and that's a whole other bag of chips.

Men with beards are totally trustworthy and I will prove it.

If you would like to give me your house keys, wallet and bank cards and pop down the park for a few hours....
