Can they? yes
Will they ever?
That would be suicide for them
Economically, strategically and most likely literally.

From what I have read and seen. The scud missiles they have are relatively short range.
However they are attempting to test long or mid range missiles. This is allot of what the controversy is about, because they not only will be able to reach the States, but might have nuclear capabilities as well.
Again, these are the reports we are hearing from the international news media.
So...............yes.......in a short amount of time (if not all ready) they will be able to launch something that could reach the U.S. If the international community doesn't stop them.

Technically, the longer range missiles they have could reach Alaska or barely the Western edge of the United States. Theoretically, these missiles could attack the U.S. However, one must understand that an ICBM missile attack is easy to trace, so if North Korea did try to attack us, we could counterstrike fully, causing full nuclear destruction. Many intelligence analysts have said that a nuclear weapon transported here from North Korea and detonated on our soil would be a more likely security risk. Also, North Korea is considered more likely to attack South Korea if its government does fail or if it wants to pursue militant reunification.

Thier missles can hardly stay in the air 45 seconds so I don't think we have to worry about them hitting the US. And if they ever hit Japan or S. Korea with one the entire country of N. Korea is going to be a nucleur wasteland.

Theoretically, they could eventually build a missle that can reach mainland America. I do believe they already have missle that can reach Alaska or Hawaii.
However, it'd never make it far before being blown to pieces by the US's patriot missle.

Absolutely! The last one fired was aimed at Hawaii which is comprised of several islands. They can also hit Alaska according to various news sources, but I feel they would like to hit the west coast. There is no dealing with a crazy man. He is certifiably nuts!

Given time they could but US anti-missile technology is so advanced and effective (PAC3) "taedongs" can be neutralised very effectively. Japan are more worried than the South Koreans - thinking out loud about pre-emptive action. I think the African continent is the safest place on earth - everybody there has the same technology - backward.

Not yet.....but they're still working on it. I bet they will be able to reach Hawaii soon, with the mainland next if they aren't kept from testing.
