I think Zidane received a well-deserved red card. What he did was bad. Now, if Materazzi really insulted him racially, I think he deserves to be punished too. He couldn't be punished during the game because it takes time to investigate and establish the truth, plus insults don't get punished with yellow or red cards. He should be suspended from the Italian national team and also Inter Milan, if he's still playing there. But only if he did say something racist. Otherwise, all players swear and badmouth each other on the pitch, and it's up to you to take it personally or let it go.

I think Zidane is a great player and I dn't think he is to be blame for France losing the WC. Its a 11 man game not a 1 man game.
Moreover, France lost in the penalty shootout. Henry was also not there for the penalty shootout. He is "forwards". Zidane has been shouldering the load since 1998.. and with the early exit during 2002 WC. Give the france captain some credit for leading the team to the final in 2006 WC !
As for Materizza, he is nothing compare to Zizou. But I must say that italian player is so much better at insulting rather then at football.

Zizou is a great player. Maybe a little too impulsive, but everyone does mistakes. He is not perfect, he is a human being. I respect him and I will always consider him to be one of the best players ever. While Materazzi...well, he should keep his mouth closed until he becomes as good as Zizou (this will never happen)

zidane forever will shine in the football history. he is a respectful man, though i don't approve his act in the final. he lost his temper and it was wrong. he could act like materazzi and even it was better to let him go without any attention.
and materazzi, those who follow soccer, knows that he is an impolite player and shouldn't comper him with zidane in any aspect of personality.

as far as Zidane is concerned, i can understand how he's upset, but France lost the game because he lost control

What he did was very stupid, and he showed very bad sportsmanship. He was being very selfish, he put his team in danger of losing, which they did.
