Would you recommend it?

It's getting there. A great place about 10 or so years ago (I heard) but like all things has gone trendy.
It is still an awesome hangout. Try Belize... I haven't been there but it is on my list of soon to do's. I have heard very good stuff.

It is pretty much true. But you have to take it for what it is. If you want to see Spain then don't got to Ibiza but if you want to see the biggest wildest party island then go, and it is beautiful. The old town in Ibiza is so picturesque. I am Canadian so I had no idea it would be so british but I still had the funnest time. I wouldn't call it tacky. Amsterdam is tacky, Ibiza is just Ibiza.

Away from the night life the rest of the island is completely different. Forests, historic buildings etc

It is pretty much only for partying. If you want to see a true Spanish city go to Barcelona, it is very nice with a lot of history.
