I have a doctor appointment Tuesday, July 18th. I will be one day away from being 37 weeks pregnant. At my last appointment, by this time it will be two weeks, I had an ultrasound and the doctor discovered my baby is breech. Also that I am 1 1/2cm dilated. My doctor said wait till my next appointment, July 18th, to see if the baby has turned or not and if he has not turned we will discuss options of either turning the baby or a c-section. What do you think he will say if or if not my baby has turned and what do you think my appointment will consist of him doing?

I had my epidural interview this past Friday and was having a lot of pressure and a lot of heavy cramping. The nurse asked me what was wrong so I told her and they sent me to labor and delivery. Come to find out all the pressure and cramping were from, they say, not resting enough and doing too much walking. Until my next appointment I have been instructed to only be on my feet when I need to be.

He'll check to see if you've dilated more, check the position of the baby then give you the option of delivering breech or c-section. My #3 son was breech and when I went into labor they took an x-ray to see if he had turned. He hadn't so I opted for a c-section since there's no way of knowing where the cord is (wrapped around the neck or not). Good luck!

Most doctors will only check your dilation ever other appointment from now on just to reduce the chance of introducing infection into the birth canal, so that is likely out, although possible. If your doc keeps an ultrasound machine in his office, the you will likely have another one, but if not then he will either have you scheduled for another (I had Six in the last month of my pregnancy). Meanwhile he will feel on your belly, to see if he can tell by hand and Doppler whether the munchkin is upside down or right side up. Believe it or not, they are usually really good at this, since the can tell by where the heartbeat is the strongest where the heart is and the rest of the baby as well. If you are still found to be breach, they usually offer the option of doing something called external aversion (turning the baby from the outside by hand). If they suggest doing this, you need to listen closely to the risks involved, they are serious, and some are potentially fatal. Personally I opted for the C-section even though I was scared, because the thought of the baby being hurt was even scarier! Since my baby was soooo enormous, they never even considered offering me the option of delivering breach(she was 10lb6oz). Also, just as a cheer you up kinda thing, My baby turned the night before I delivered, I felt her do it. It hurt like heck, but just so you know, it could be that easy!

First of all 37 weeks still gives your baby plenty of time to turn. If it doesn't and you want to try and turn it there are some alternative options you can look into. I had a friend who turned her baby using acupuncture.

Second I just want to say that have a breech baby vaginally is possible. If your doctor insists on c-section and you are not interested then you should seek a second opinion. Doctors today try to make women believe that it is impossible to deliver a breech baby without surgery but this is absolutely NOT true! What do you think women did before surgery was around? Lay down and die? Its ridiculous. I was a footling breech (feet first instead of bottom) and my mother had me vaginally with no drugs at all. I think you need to be prepared to work a little harder but don't be fooled into thinking that natural birth is not an option for you.

Spend some time with your butt in the air (put the ironing board or something like it against the couch and lay on it with your feet up). This will encourage the baby to turn on its own.

If it is still breech, I would be firm and push the doctor to have the baby turned. I had a breech at 37 weeks that I turned myself, but I was prepared to deliver my son breech. You don't have to have a C-section. It is possible to vaginally deliver a breech baby, doctors just don't like to do it.

To answer your question, though, the doctor will make recommendations, but you have the ultimate choice. Good luck.

I would guess that is the baby is still breech, the doctor will try and turn him. They wil try and hold off on a c-section as long as possible. If you were 1 1/2 cm dialated, you could stay that way for weeks, so I would guess that you will still be about the same at the next visit. If you'd like to get the labor started, they say walking is a great way to help it out.

Either way, keep us posted and good luck!

I would prolly just go on and do a planned c-section if the baby hasn't turned. I've heard of some slight risks involved when turning a baby, besides the pain. Sorry not trying to scare you into labor or anything! I'll keep you in my thoughts, turn little baby turn. Good Luck!

Expect the normal routine, peeing in a cup, measure BP and check baby heartbeat. Now, if the baby is breech and you want to try and turn it, he may try to do that at the appt. This hurts, at least it did for me. But all you do is prop your legs up in the stirrups and he will try to put his hand in there and turn the baby, you will feel a lot of pressure during the procedure. Good Luck

Your baby could turn on his own anytime up until the day you deliver. You could do a c-section, the scars are pretty small these days. I'm sure you've seen on TV or something when they turn a baby...it looks painful to have people shoving on your stomach.Good luck and hope your baby has turned by your appointment.
