Sometimes boys act all macho and stupid when the meet a girl because they think it will impress them (a common mistake in the teens). This changes through maturity . You might also be looking at the wrong boys?

A lot of guys use teasing as a way to flirt with girls. It's a way to get their attention without coming out and saying I like you. That's probably the hardest thing for a guy to say. That would be my guess, and personal experience.

If you talk to the guy with his friends around he will act like a jerk, it's a guy thing. If you talk to him alone without his friends around he will probably be totally different.

They're intimidated by a confident girl, and they need to pretend superiority until you've hinted to them that you find them attractive or interesting.

there are many decent, good-looking and smart guys ( the package) at the university. maybe you're looking in the wrong places?
