Bluetooth is an industrial specification for wireless personal area networks (PANs), also known as IEEE 802.15.1. Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones, laptops, PCs, printers and digital cameras via a secure, globally unlicensed short range radio frequency.
The name Bluetooth was born from the 10th century king of Denmark, King Harald Bluetooth, who engaged in diplomacy which led warring parties to negotiate with each other. The inventors of the Bluetooth technology thought this a fitting name for their technology, which allowed different devices to talk to each other.[1]. The name of the king in Danish was Harald Blåtand and the Bluetooth logo is based on the H and B runes.

No you are all wrong. A bluetooth is a descendant of the horrible Dark Ages Viking known as Harald Bluetooth. He was a Danish warrior of great reknown who won many Viking raids against Christian Europe. There is no scientific evidence of this, but legend says that he was called Bluetooth because of a particular dental condition which made him especially prone to tooth decay causing his teeth to fall out at an early age and appear particularly discolored.

Bluetooth, simply put, is wireless technology.
Bluetooth technology is how mobile phones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs), not to mention a broad selection of other devices, can be easily interconnected using a short-range wireless connection. Using this technology, users can have all mobile and fixed computer devices be totally coordinated.

It is a wireless technology used to replace cable between a variety of devices. You can connect computers, printers, pocket pc,
head sets, stereo, mouse, keyboard. All these devices have to
implement a Bluetooth "profile", which corresponds to the
specific way the cable would be used to connect this device
to another. Have a look at what a bluetooth can do for you.

Bluetooth is a radio standard and communications protocol primarily designed for low power consumption, with a short range (power class dependent: 1 meter, 10 meters, 100 meters) based around low-cost transceiver microchips in each device.
Bluetooth lets these devices communicate with each other when they are in range. The devices use a radio communications system, so they do not have to be in line of sight of each other, and can even be in other rooms, so long as the received power is high enough. As a result of different antenna designs, transmission path attenuations, and other variables, observed ranges are variable; however, transmission power levels must fall into one of three classes:

At the beginning of time, two wireless "standards" came out, blue tooth and wi-fi. Both allowed computer devices to comminucate with each other via radio. Yes, regular old radio, but at a much higher frequency.
These two standards competed, but bluetooth ultimately lost out at being used for major things like wireless internet. But it did get picked up for use BETWEEN computer compnents like printers etc.
So thats it.

Bluetooth (R) is a small speakerphone you attach to your ear to listen to the speaker, or speak through! Bluetooth (R) is connected to your phone through a wire so that you can call via phone, and listen or speak through the Bluetooth (R). It is safe to use in most states because it is permitted and makes easier to drive.

Bluetooth is a technology, specifically a short range wireless technology. You will see it in many cellphones, many laptops, and other devices including cars. Most common use is on a cellphone with a wireless headset, but there are many other uses.
