I tend to say yes. She seems to have one thing that the other female drivers have lacked. Overt sex appeal. Janet Guthrie, Lynn St. James, Sarah Fisher are not about be in Maxim, FHM, etc like Danica. I'm not saying she doesn't have talent. You have to at some level to compete. However, take any of the other women listed above and put them in comparable equipment to what Danica has and they may have done just as well. Conversely, put Danica in some of the crap those ladies had and we probably wouldn't really be talking about her. Sex sells, don't forget it. IRL needs the coverage, but until Danica wins multiple races I won't be sold.

The big difference between Danica Patrick and Kasey Kahne is the plumbing. They're both damn fine drivers and hot as hell. The other difference is Danica is going to be the only woman driver in NASCAR if she decides to make the crossover...So who cares if she's hyped up? So's Kasey...he gets commercial after commercial of what appear to be married women dreamin over him and crap so there's really no difference.

Just like we see in other racing series, there are good drivers and there are excellent drivers. The good drivers can make the race and finish the race, but don't secure a lot of victories or championships. The excellent drivers are those that are running up front nearly every race and are in contention for the championship nearly every season.
Danica Patrick right now is in that good driver category. If she wasn't a good driver, she wouldn't be making races.

Danica is a good driver, the fact that she is female only adds to the mystique and is in fact a great marketing tool for the Indy cars to use to their advantage, But yes she can drive.

yes. she's overhyped. Yes, she's a marketing tool. Yes, she, IRL and ESPN are exploiting the novelty of her for all it's worth.
But anyone who gets out there and risks it all racing at over 200 mph still deserves to be called a real driver.

She's got ability. There are many drivers out there that don't win races. But she is also a marketing tool to draw attention to the sport.

She may be overhyped, but there are lots of little girls who've dreamed of being race car drivers, and she's got solid ability. I bet in a few years, there will be more women and it won't be such a novelty anymore.

Well, she's been posting good finishes so there must be some skill level there. Is Indy using her as a hype tool? Absolutely, but it isn't any different than Nascar using Jeff Gordon or Kasey Kahne as a hype tool too.
