Router, you don't need a router for home networking. All you need is a crossover cable. Then connect the computers using the cable. You have to plug in each end of the cable to your computer's and notebook's ethernet port. Then go to Control Panel>Network Setup Wizard. Click "next". If you see a list, select other from that list and click next. Then select, 'My computer belongs to a network that doesn't have an internet connection' or something similar. Click next. Turn on file and printer sharing. Then select "Just end the wizard..." or something similar and click next then Finish. Do this on both your PC and your notebook. Then restart both of them. Go to My network places, click "view workgroup computers" and you should see both your computer and notebook listed there.

Assuming that the two are networked and operating correctly, under Win XP right click the icon for MY COMPUTER,go to sharing and security, enable file sharing.Do this on both systems. Then again right click MY COMPUTER icon click on MAP NETWORK DRIVE.Search for the other computer, and click OK you should then be interconnected. This is how I hooked up my network and is working great

STEP. 1 make sure ur network is set up prob
s2 make sure all the right drivers are installed
s3 config ur ip and subnet adresses
now try ur connection
if it does not work go 2 start, run and type cmd.
in the console use the ping util (ping 192,168.0.1) for example
