Look at it this way.... (god forbid) your house burns down... would you continue to live in the burned out ashes or would you look for a new place to live? Ok, Ok, it's a cheesy metaphor, but they know that someday the sun will burn out... what do you think will happen to humanity? Will we perish with our little corner of the universe or perhaps colonize some other planet? All Hypothetics aside, even if the act of going into space provides us with little or even no useful information... look at the technology that's come from just being able to... deep sea exploration, satellite communications, medical advancements and even the computer you're using to read this.

Yes I have to say that I agree with the majority. There has been a lot of positive things that have come out of space exploration. Granted you may notice some dumb-sounding space missions but overall there have been "giant leaps for mankind". From medicine to technology it's a very good progress.

I am still waiting to read any kind of official reports from NASA, or the government rationalising the need for space exploration and how it benefits mankind. It seems to me like a mega billion dollar industry feeding and supporting the thousands who are involved with it - something like the usefulness of F1 racing - it's as important as cosmetic surgery is to healthcare.

If exploring space helps us understand what we are doing to the world, then yes we need to research and learn. If the rich think they are going to create a space station or find a new world that the rich can escape to because we have destroyed our home, no it is wrong and a waste of valuable resources.

It is an useless waste of valuable time, energy and resources.
What was the value of them going to the Moon (if they actually did go)? They brought some dust and stones, worth billions of dolars. Now they invest in bringing the same from other planets - just a big cheating! We don't give any credit to these pseudoscientists.

Yes, it is the next thing. Yes it has to be done. Man has to explore, we have to know more, and understand more and see more. We must spend the money now, so tomorrow we can reach out there and touch the next set of planets, the next set of starts, the next set of galaxies.
Learning and exploring is how man develops, there needs to be a chance for us to reach out. It is a human imperative for us to know more, every day.
Yes, we need to explore. If we do not, then we fail our future generations.
