I'm stuck at work with no work to do. I'm going out of my mind with boredom. I've even tidied my desk, to the point of separating the coloured paperclips from the silver ones....... .
I'm seeing a careers advisor, but in the meantime this is driving me insane. I feel like screaming so much that I explode.
Can you think of what I can do to entertain myself that doesn't involve the internet (done that), won't get me sacked or gets me out of here?! The boredom is driving me mad.

Also, asked for more work. They have none. I am looking for a new job, just haven't found one yet. I have to do this job to pay the bills, but after 6 months of nothing I've done everything I can think of that won't get me sacked.

How about taking this opportunity to promote yourself career wise? Show your superiors that you have drive and initiative by offering to take on tasks that either a) never get done or b) show your outstanding skills...and if you're feeling inspired...look around to see if there's a project you could work on that would further your company's business and put you in the limelight.
Alternatively you can take the time to learn another job by offering to help out a co-worker...you never know you may want a change...or if there's any on line courses, training or accreditations you can work on this is a great time to show the company that you're a hot property.
So don't look at 'no work' as a problem...it's an opportunity to break out of the box and shine. Good luck and go get 'em!

Are you sure you arean't me? LOL. I do lots - search the web, design quilts, answer questions, play games, and wander around the building.
Hmmm, no web stuff? Do you read? Print out a book from online - place it in your desk tray, easy to cover when someone comes by.
Get a pen pal - write your penpals via email. There are lots of people, sick and disabled, military, that need someone to talk to.
Write a book.
The hardest part of being bored at the office - is looking like your busy, so you can keep the job and pay the bills! Job Security!
Problem is - some days I am swamped!

As they say, all work and no play makes Jack (or in your case Jill)
a dull boy/girl. Or.............rather all play and no work makes Jill's brains turn to mush.. Make enough duplicate copies of all your business forms to last until the next century. See if your boss can let you get a cubicle next to the window. Take up crosswords.
Are you sure you want to keep this job? Are you willingto get this job at the price of your sanity. Check out the DVD Office Space
to get some original ideas. Good luck!

Psychologists tell us that the human brain needs constant and ever-changing stimulation. Now don't get me wrong, the human brain learns by repetition. But the brain becomes bored once it has mastered a task or concept, and it wants to move on.
The key to overcoming career boredom is to change, at least partially, how you use your career expertise. This will give your brain an opportunity to tackle something new and different, and it will repay you by generating extra chemical enzymes that will make you feel great.
Here are 10 activities to stimulate your brain using your existing career knowledge and skills in ways different from your typical daily work. Consider undertaking any of these options on a part-time basis first, as a career-enhancement project. Then, if your selections inspire you, consider taking them on full-time.
Write a Book: Turn your career knowledge into a novel, technical training manual or classroom textbook.
Give Lectures: Offer to speak about your career, and related challenges and solutions at various professional gatherings.
Do Consulting: Make yourself available as an independent consultant to small firms unable to afford in-house experts.
Volunteer Your Time: Consider volunteering time to local schools and colleges to help students better understand your career field and how to develop the skills necessary for their future success.
Teach: Contact local schools, colleges, technical institutes and independent training services and offer to teach courses related to your career expertise.
Become a Career Coach: Offer to mentor younger professionals in your career field to guide them into a more successful career track.
Start an Association: Following your state's laws, create a professional association dedicated to sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
Publish a Newsletter or Journal: Survey a group of colleagues to determine what issues are hot in your career field. Develop solutions and publish your findings in a newsletter or journal made available to your colleagues.
Start Your Own Business: Find a segment of the population not currently served by companies in your field, and create your own company, even if only a one-person operation, to provide the services or products they need.
Become a Product or Service Demonstrator: Determine which companies in your career field are producing the most exciting products for tomorrow's market. Contact them and offer to demonstrate their products -- for a fee -- at local, state, regional and national gatherings.

Play a game of office dares with a fellow worker. Set up a point tally and whoever gets the most points at the end of the day wins!! You can decide the prize. ( you can play it low, i doubt u will get in trouble)
I know when i'm at work that is very good if you have one or two of you playing.
I play tig at work, or chase or something, depending if weare busy but it's sooooo fun.

I don't know about your office, or what you do or are supposed to do, however, every office that I have ever been in, or every office that I have ran always had filing that had to be done. Go see your office manager and ask what you can do to help out. A person who shows willingness and incentive to work is going to get a lot further ahead then one who sorts paper clips by colour.
