A Counselor is legally bound not to disclose anything you say to him/her during a session. However, if the counselor thinks you are a danger to yourself (suicidal thoughts or actually trying to committ suicide) or another person (homicidal thoughts) then he is obligated to turn that into the proper authorities. I think counseling in a wonderful tool to as you put it "fix yourself". However, be prepared to take a long hard look at yourself, your marriage and your life. Also, what about getting your husband involved in the counseling down the road? You say the problem is with you. However, I am a firm believer that there are no "innoscent" people when it comes to making a marriage work or not.

If you feel that she cannot be trusted then you need to find a new counselor. Technically anything that you tell her is not supposed to go any further than that. She is not supposed to tell anyone anything about what you said or what went on in your sessions. But once again if you feel that she cannot be trusted and that she is going to go back and tell then do not tell her anything and find someone else to counsel you.

A certified counselor is bound by confidentiality and can't talk about things that you have said unless you give them permission. So don't let that stop you from seeing a counselor and getting the help you need and want.

no counselor should reveal your info to anyone without your permission (usually written permission) and the only way that confidentiality should be compromised should be if you are going to harm yourself or someone else! Counseling is a great idea..secrets and deception can eat you alive. A counselor is your best option. good luck

everything will be confidential...however, you should be seeking counselling to heal the problem... and to heal 100%. Never go into counselling with lies...always seek to solve the real issues or you will never get to the root of the problem. Otherwise you are wasting your time

Counselors, priest, and people of that nature who you confide in are bound by privacy act and privileged communications by the court not to reveal any confidential info.

I am pretty sure anything discussed with a counselor would be covered under HIPAA regulations and couldn't be shared with anyone else. You can check with them before you decide to make an appt.

If you go to a licensed counseler, it is against the ethics of his/her profession to tell anything you say to any one without your permission. You could sue him big time for doing it. Speak with one and begin to feel better about yourself. good luck!
